Jannette Berkley-Patton, PhD, is a professor and holds the Merle and Muriel Hicklin Endowed Chair (Internal Medicine) in the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine Biomedical and Health Informatics Department. She is also the founding director of the UMKC Community Health Research Group and founding director of the UMKC Health Equity Institute. For the past 20 years, Dr. Berkley-Patton’s research has focused on reducing health disparities among African American and underserved populations through large-scale, multilevel, culturally-tailored health services interventions on HIV/STDs, diabetes, COVID-19, mental health, dementia, and the health impacts of transportation policies. She’s been honored with the University of Missouri System Cross-Cultural Community Engagement Presidential Award, inducted into the University of Kansas Women’s Hall of Fame, and recognized as leading the UMKC School of Medicine in receiving the American Association of Medical Colleges Spencer Foreman Community Engagement Award. She has a B.S. in Electrical and Computer Engineering and a Ph.D. in Child and Developmental Psychology from the University of Kansas.
